So Long Summer

It’s my FRIDAY and it’s going to be a nice long weekend (right before the chaos starts, A/K/A SCHOOL).  I don’t know if it’s been obvious that I’ve been M.I.A. but things have been a tad crazy.  I’ll sum it up this way:

The kids got sick from camp.  We knew it was going to happen.  They ended up with coxsackie, which left me home with them for a week.  Actually, I came in for a day and a half until one of the attorney’s sent me home because he was afraid I was contagious.

coxsackie

Unfortunately, there is no real treatment for Coxsackie. Just have to monitor the fevers, as they go as high as 104.  Sebastian had it first from a Sunday-Tuesday and Lili got it from Tuesday-Thursday.  What a mess.

We had a serious case of cabin fever after being stuck at home for 9-days.  So by Friday, we headed over to our hairdresser’s house.  She has two kids but first, Lili cut off 10-inches of her hair.

She donated it to CWHL (Children with Hair Loss).  Afterwards, we stayed for a few hours so the kids could play.

We ended up having lunch with my in-laws then headed over to my parents to hang out for a bit.  Since the kids were really contagious, we hadn’t seen them in some time.

The next morning, we received a last minute text to meet up with my girlfriend and her kids at the park.  We hadn’t seen them in some time so we made a point to make it over.

FYI, Lili loves her new hairdo.

Friends

We caught up for about two hours before we had to head home and over to Julian’s football game. Poor kids were tired but they woke up by the time we got there.

On our way back home we picked up pizza and nachos.  It was a LONG and HOT day.

Sunday (08/21/16), my girlfriend Rachel was coming over and I made her favorite, Tortilla Espanola.

I was happy to see her.

The rest of the week we were back to normal and back to camp.  Also, we rescheduled a play-date that we canceled because I was afraid kids were still contagious.  (08/26/16)

One of the trails I run by my office has a Fairy Trail.  One of the mothers and her son with autism make random little fairy houses for everyone to come and see. It is SO cute.

Kids did great looking for fairy houses and had a ton of fun.  I can’t believe they walked for over an hour.  After, we went back to my girlfriend’s house and the kids played some more.

So, just ONE MORE WEEK until both kiddos are in school. I have more to update on.  Some good, some, unfortunately bad… But I’ll have to get that post together.  I have been running and working out regularly. I leave you with this:

be kind

Hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend. You deserve it!

It’s Monday… But a Short-Week

7:30 AM: 3.75-Mile Run w/ Celeste “a/k/a Solemate” – COMPLETED

You know how much I love running (or working out — though more running) on the 1st of every month. It leads me to believe that I’m starting the month off on the right foot (until I get home and stuff my face with ice-cream!). It’s down-pouring and Celeste and I beat the rain. Oh yeah…

We were so excited to run this morning, we couldn’t stop talking about it the night before. All we were missing was Kristina. But she had a Tim McGraw concert the night before so her bed was calling her name. We don’t blame her.

Quick Weekend Recap:

Saturday:
Woke up bright and early and HYDRATED. I think I over-hydrated because I ended up having to pee 7x before leaving the house and then 5-minutes after driving, I had to pee AGAIN! UGH. I didn’t want to cramp from not being hydrated but I didn’t want to have to pee every single second — OH well… It took us about 20-minutes to get to the race site and luckily, I got a tip that there was a bathroom in one of the buildings. Thank goodness. I saw one porta-potty and didn’t know how I’d get Lili in there with me. GROSS. After I used the ladies room, we headed over to pick up my bib and then hung out waiting for Celeste and/or Kristina.

Celeste and her Sis, Rita, showed up and registered. It was going to be her sister’s first 5k. Exciting.

Before pic with Celeste. It was our first 5k together since the Hangover 5k. Seems like ages ago.

Before & After

Before & After

Funny story. As I was putting my bib on, Lili looked down at her shirt asking for her bib. I debated a bit but wasn’t sure if I wanted to dish out the $30. So I ended up passing this time around.

The good thing about this 5k, it started RIGHT away. The bad thing about this race, it was GUN TIME… no start mats so of course we were in the back. No biggie. About half a mile in, Kristina scared the crap outta me — our little Bandit. She had just parked her car and jumped in. HAHA

Overall the race was good and there were LOTS O HILLS. I tried to kick it in the end so I could either beat the last 5k I ran and/or under 31 minutes but no dice. I came in right at 31:00 minutes. It was good though. I had a great time.

Afterwards, we chit-chatted for a few before heading back home. I ended up doing a load of laundry and P did the food shopping. We just hung around the house hanging out, etc.

Sunday: I woke up early and ran 5.10 miles on the tread. The run went well and it was the first time in a long time that I did not feel pregnant — except when I looked down.

Oh belly.

Oh belly.

When I got off to pee, I saw Lili with my shoes on and hopping on the treadmill with her, “Mommy, I run!”.

Shortly after, I jumped in the shower, got dressed, got Lili dressed and P got up to shower. We were meeting his parents for breakfast at the diner. After breakfast, we came home and Lili was exhausted. She ended up taking a nap while I tried to finish up writing out my recipes and using my new book from Allie. Ever since Lili’s been talking, I need to start writing down the memories before I forget them.

My Quotable Kid

My Quotable Kid

She really does talk a lot including counting to 15 by herself, singing the ABCs. She’s learning letters and pointing to them. It’s amazing how much info they can retain.

When she woke up for her nap, we played a bit more and Pedro got on the treadmill to walk/run. Then I started dinner. Spain was playing Brazil, so I decided on a Spanish theme. I heated up some chorizo on the pan and then made Arroz Con Pollo and Tortilla Espanola.

Buen Provecho

Buen Provecho

It was so good. Unfortunately, the game was not so good. Spain ended up losing terribly to Brazil. I was at least happy that someone (other than my husband) went back for seconds on dinner.

YUMMMMM

YUMMMMM

I have to say that the Arroz Con Pollo came out the best ever since I’ve been making it. I know, a bold statement, but I think I was just in a zone. On another note, isn’t Lili hilarious with her eating habits? She eats her rice like she’s taking a shot of tequila.

Pacman Tortilla

Pacman Tortilla

I ended up eating half of the tortilla. It’s so good. What’s not to like? Eggs + Potatoes + Onions + Red Peppers + Chorizo. It’s perfection.

Lili showed how much she loved dinner by leaving me a love note in her diaper. Don’t worry. No pictures will be posted. I ended up giving her a bubble bath and then we did some more playing and arts and crafts.

I love you thissssss much.

I love you thissssss much.

When you ask Lili how much she loves you, she really does open her arms all the way and says, “This Much.” I thought this was perfect for Pedro to put on his desk at work.

After arts and crafts, she was ready for bed. So off to bed she went. I followed shortly after but then got nauseous and vomited. Good times.

Oh yeah, and I’ve officially entered the THIRD TRIMESTER!!!! Is that crazy or what? I’m like, huh?!? What? Really? No way… AHHHHHHHH… The last two days, I swear, this baby is trying to escape. PUSHING its way out… Maybe s/he’s just working out in there.

In case anyone wants the recipes to the two meals above, here’s the link:

Anybody else have an incredibly short week? Half-day Wednesday and/or not working both Thursday and Friday? Any big holiday plans?

I think I’m jumping in on another 5k on Thursday then relaxing the rest of the weekend. You know how much I love my Twilight Zone Marathon.

Three for Tuesday

4:30 AM: 5-Mile Run (Easy) – COMPLETED

There are three things that I am loving these days:

1. Running (and working out): Not only does it keep me sane, but it keeps me healthy and it gets me through the work day. Even if I have to run on the treadmill (as I prefer outdoor running), a run is a run no matter where it gets done. I know that’s not for everybody, but I’ll take a treadmill run over no run any day.

2. Reading to Lili. Every night, I look forward to putting Lili down to sleep. Not only is she the first person I want to see when I wake up, but she’s the last person I want to kiss before I go down to bed. (Shhhh… don’t tell my husband). When I see her rubbing her eyes and making these fussy sounds, I know it’s time to rock her in the glider and read her a book. We go to her bookshelf and pick out a book.

Lili's First Books

I usually read her a book in English and another in Spanish. I just ordered five books in Tagalog. Lili is going to be trilingual. I’m a little embarrassed to say that my Spanish is much better than my Tagalog. I’ll be learning a lot with Lili when I read her books in Tagalog.

Let's read this book again!

As I was looking for a book to read her the other night, I realized, we’ve read every single book that is on her shelf. I think that’s my fault. I read her too many books in one night. We just get all into it. My boss was telling me last week that she was cleaning out her daughter’s room and is getting rid of so many of her books that are in excellent condition.

All for me!!!!

Looks like we’ll be getting lost in a world of imagination!

3. Cooking. I really do enjoy cooking, whether it’s baking or making dinner. However, during pregnancy and post-pregnancy, it’s been hard to cook. I’m trying to make it work though. I have been baking a lot more and actually, this morning, post-run, Lili was still sleeping, so I decided to prep dinner and cook my dinner. My MIL made me my favorite Tortilla Espanola, so since I picked up some chorizo the other day, I decided, why the heck not. OH, my MIL also traded me her Tortilla plate that I oh-so-love! I bought mine from a catalog that carries products from Spain. She actually brought this home with her from Spain years ago.

Vuelve Tortilla para Espana

It’s so much better than my Tortilla plate because mine was concave. Hers is flat, as it should be. Otherwise, it kind of sinks in the middle after a few minutes and I hate when that happens.

I’m looking forward to dinner tonight.

What are some things you love doing these days?
I’ll have to compile a list of things I don’t love doing these days. I’ll tell you the #1 thing is going to work, followed by laundry. HA!
