Graduations, Father’s Day & a Birthday

June is always a busy month. I started off my morning with weights. Oh, but wait… I guess first we celebrated with a little birthday surprise. Our Liliana turns 4 today.

It’s amazing how time flies. Anyway, she had a hard time sleeping last night so I stayed with her while P prepped for her AM birthday festivities. He did an amazing job with putting balloons everywhere.

She was happy but she’s still a bit sick. I’ll get to that in a bit. We didn’t send her to school today nor will she attend the last day tomorrow. So sad. She won’t see her friends one last time or her teacher. P will have to drop off their ‘THANK YOU’ gifts.

The weekend was great. On Friday, I woke up early and I attended Lili’s Pre-K breakfast with parents and the kids sang a song.

Yeah, Lili is pretty tiny. 😦

After breakfast, I went home and then I took care of S. We ended up pulling Lili out of school by noon and headed over to her cousin’s 5th grade graduate — or I think they call it a stepping UP ceremony?

We had a late lunch/early dinner after. Then we headed home. P and my brother were going to pick up our new patio set. It was a long day and Lili was exhausted.

Unfortunately, the next afternoon Lili had a fever. Poor girl.

The next morning I ended up cooking from 8-1. We were having P’s family over for Father’s Day. It was good. We ate, played games and Lili’s fever came back later… Unfortunately.

I’m Alive…and Pre-Easter Celebrations

Oh hey! I’m here. It’s just been a crazy few weeks, but I am well and alive… TIRED, but alive. When am I NOT tired? Yesterday we celebrated an early dinner with P’s family because his cousins are in town from Ecuador and my SIL’s family will be in FL for Easter week so they won’t be around. It was a double celebration. Usually, P and I prepare some type of egg-travagant Easter Hunt Activity. We had no intentions of doing anything this year since my SIL was going to be away but last Monday evening my MIL asked P if we could do something for the kids. Initially I was exhausted and was looking forward to a “Get out of Jail”/free pass card but I mustered up the energy on Tuesday and came up with an idea. I told P why don’t we do a game show? Well, the game show turned into not one, but THREE game shows.

I’m not sure if any of you remember some of these game shows but we decided to do Card Sharks, The Price is Right and Classic Concentration. Fun fact, Alex Tribek was the host of Classic Concentration in the early 80s.

On Friday, I spent the bulk of the day buying supplies we would need for the Easter event. I tried to buy things also for next week’s actual Easter Day. It took about two hours and by the time we got home, we ate lunch and got ready to pick Lili up from school. After school, we went to Barnes and Nobles to read some books and then HOME. I didn’t do any real preparation for the event till Saturday morning.

Ready to Work

Ready to Work

The first thing I did was draw blueprints of how we would be setting every game up along with supplies and objectives of games. We had to figure out questions, prizes, etc. The hardest part was creating a puzzle for Classic Concentration. We already knew what we were using as the puzzle but had to figure out how to draw it. I sketched something out as practice.

Draft

Draft

Can you solve it? By 10am, I had to wake P up. He helped me with kids, I wanted to run so he put the baby down for a nap. Then he ran out to get more supplies and we started to work a bit more. I cut out a few things for Lili’s fun events.

Pin the Tail on the Bunny

Pin the Tail on the Bunny

She needed to have fun games too. I had to take a few breaks, mainly to play with kids, feed them, cook dinner, give them baths, BAKE A CAKE AND BROWNIES, etc. When they went down to sleep, P and I finished up the bulk of the work.

final cc1

It was a very complicated evening with a lot of detail. BUT, we were pretty much good to go. I mean, we still had a few things to figure out but we did that last minute before the event.

I woke up early with kids the next morning and ran 5.5 miles on the treadmill.

Stretching w/ B

Stretching w/ B

I put a load of laundry in, laid the kids’ clothes out and then showered. I put B down for a nap (Lili refused one) and then we got ready to go to my in-laws. Everyone was already at the house — so we got there in time for dinner. It was great seeing P’s cousins. We hadn’t seen them in 7 years.

We celebrated both his cousins’ birthdays — they’re sisters and birthdays are 4 days apart (well, 2-years and 4-days).

AND THEN IT WAS GAME TIME….

Game 1: Card Sharks

Game 1: Card Sharks

Unfortunately, no pics were taken during The Price is Right. It was tough to do this game and not as fun as we hoped it would be but it worked out well. We had a slight intermission to set up for the last game (the best game, Classic Concentration) — so while P and I were setting up, we had Lili and the kids do their “Pin the Tail on the Bunny”.

And when that ended it was time for Classic Concentration. It’s basically memory and underneath there’s a puzzle you have to solve. They had the opportunity to win $42 total in this round.

Overall it was a great time with great family and great food. I’ll have to see if I could post the video. The videos are hysterical!!!

What’s your favorite game show? We love Family Feud, but only with Steve Harvey. He is a pip. Also, JEOPARDY. Always on at our house. And does lottery count? Lili is always guessing what numbers will come out — it’s usually during Wheel of Fortune.

Off Good Friday? Plans for the holy week if you celebrate?

Making Lists (and Checking Them Off)

Track Tuesday 3.25-Miles with Cici – COMPLETED

I still use a planner to write things down and check them off. I try to schedule my week in advance but it doesn’t always work out that way. I had two loads of laundry and to cook arroz con pollo (Spanish chicken rice) for dinner, on my to-do list and crossed it off! It felt good. However, I wasn’t able to get a strength workout in. Oh well.

planning

P was out last night and I was a single mom. I came home with kids by 5:40 and started dinner. I put a load of laundry in, finished cooking, fed the kids and ate dinner, washed the dishes, put a load in the dryer and another in the wash and then gave the kids a bath. I laid out their clothes for the next day, gave Lili a nebulizer treatment and read them books before they went down. By 9PM, I was putting a load in the dryer and folding the other clothes. P just came home and I fixed him a plate to eat but he didn’t want to eat yet. We talked for a bit and then I went to sleep by 11:30. Exhausted.

I was excited though because I was meeting Cici for a track workout. We woke up at 6:45 and I prepared Lili’s lunch. Then I got the kids dressed, I showered, put some clothes away and then we were out the door by 7:50.

Track Tuesday

It’s arm warmer season. Love, love, love these arm warmers. I got them from the 2012 NYC Marathon expo (the marathon that never happened). Anyhow, I dropped Sebastian off at my in-law’s then met up with Cici.

solematestt

I love this girl. We talked about A LOT of things including our next races. I’m signing up for a marathon in March and I have high hopes for this particular one. In between that big race I have a 5k that I want to race as well as a Half Marathon. I have some little races that I plan to run this month also. Nothing big. For now, I’m taking this month to focus on RECOVERY!!! Hopefully I will be hitting the pool for some pool running. I had to dig deep into the closet to find my pool running shoes.

prs

I think I last wore these back in 2010. I still can’t seem to find my floatation belt. Another “to-do” that will be on my list.

Post run, I got into Cici’s car and headed to Dunkin’ for some Pumpkin Iced. YUM. There was a bag on the ground that was for me from Cici. She’s so awesome. She gave the kids a Halloween gift. Now that I recall, when we were doing a long run together after we found out that NYC was canceled, she gave Lili a Halloween bag. She’s the best.

L&B

How cute is she? Best Auntie Cici ever. We love you girl.

Okay, so do you still write in a planner or do you use an online calendar, i.e. google calendar, iPhone calendar, etc.?

It’s Election Day. Are you getting your vote on?

I am doing some ankle exercises while I type this up. I can’t wait to start training again. 🙂

Happy Tuesday!

Christmas Break: Part I

6:45 AM: Burn Intervals (45-Minutes) – COMPLETED

12:00 PM: 3.1-Mile Run (Avg. Pace 8:49 min/mi) – COMPLETED

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year! I’ve been M.I.A. I know. I wanted to blog from home but let’s be real here — any free chance I get to spend it with Lili means I won’t be near the computer. My long break was quite lovely though, and pretty long (and perhaps boring to some of you) so I’ll probably lose some of you readers along the way. I’ll break it down in two parts.

I did get out of work early on Friday and I met up with Celeste to run on the track.

track

We did 1-mile warm-up, hopped a fence, then did 1×400 @ 7:30, 3×800 @ 7:30, 7:15, 7:00, then 1×200 @ 6:00.

"Rule 2.40 Respect the Rules of the Track" if you have to squeeze, hop, jump a gate, then it's not okay to run on the track."

“Rule 2.40 Respect the Rules of the Track” if you have to squeeze, hop, jump a gate, then it’s not okay to run on the track.”

I swear, we must have looked like two idiots because we later found the “secret” exit.

Oh, duh.

Oh, duh.

All I have to say is thank goodness we didn’t have to hop a fence post-speed workout. I don’t know if I would have been able to do that climb. Good news is I didn’t puke after this track workout. HA. We did a cool down (about a mile and change) and then I headed over to pick up Lili. We were doing our annual family Christmas party at my sister’s. I usually hold it but Santa was coming to my sister’s neighborhood and we wanted the kids to see him.

Secret Santa

It was a long night and the next day we had to get up early to get a quick strength workout in (thanks to Jackie Warner’s Xtreme workout) and to go watch Scarlett perform in her dance recital. She did amazing. I have to get the pictures from my sister. My sister invited us to eat out but we really had to go to the mall and finish up some Christmas shopping.

I finished wrapping some gifts after and called it a night. Sunday, we got up and Celeste met me at my house around 9:45. We had a long run to get in. We did 2.33-miles over to my sister’s house and then we followed my sister’s schedule. She had 6-miles at 10:30-10:44 min/mi pace then 4-miles at her MRP, 9:45 min/mi. Celeste and I dropped her off and did the last 4-miles at our MRP 8:45 min/mi. It felt easy and fast. The rest of the day I baked, hung out with Lili and did some shopping for me and one last gift for Pedro.

Christmas Eve, we woke up early. I did a strength workout and then met up with Celeste to do a practice, easy run on the 5k course for New Year’s Day. We were both treating this as a recovery run since we went long the day before. I decided to take Lili with me. It was cold so she was bundled up. Celeste mapped out the course perfectly. There were a few hills (not too bad) in miles 1 and 2. It was a great run.

A lot of opening gifts and eating and being merry. We were finally home by 4:00 PM. EXHAUSTED!!!

The next day I was hosting Christmas Part 3,343,646. HA! The house was turned upside down, I had no laundry done, food wasn’t ready, yada yada yada — BUT, I’m a little selfish and needed to go on a run. I dropped off Lili at my parents’ house for a few and met up with Celeste for a trail (run #4 with her on my vacation).

I’m wearing my new workout top from my SIL’s family. LOVE IT!!! I actually wore it today too.

We did 6.25-miles in the trails (it was TOUGH) and then we parted ways. She had a ton of cleaning to do and so did I. I was home with Lili by 11 which gave me just enough time to CLEAN, start cooking, put her down for a nap, etc. By 3pm, it started SNOWING — so my SIL’s family had to cancel (totally understandable since they get more snow than we do). My in-laws were still coming though.

dining room dec. 26

It really did turn out well even though there were just four of us. I loved all the gifts that we got and Pedro’s dad LOVED his iPad 2 from all of us. They ended up leaving close to 9:30 and we called it a night. It was successful.

There’s still so much more that we did – Sabrina’s 12th birthday, more runs, a great race, etc. Stay tuned for Part II.

How was your Christmas spent? Did you get any gifts you weren’t expecting? Did you go to the mall to make some returns?

I’ll be back to let you know what gifts I loved!!!

Family Night

5:50 AM: Jackie Warner’s 30-Day Workout – COMPLETED

Pedro and I were never big on Valentine’s Day. It’s just a regular day to us to be quite frank. He did want to cook us dinner, but that changed once Lili and I got home. We were too preoccupied enjoying her company and she was having too much fun opening up gifts from us. It’s her first Valentine’s Day, so we should be celebrating with her at the very least.

Gift from Papa

Yesterday on my run, I made sure to map it out so I ended up at this toy store in town. Every single time I run past this store, I tell myself that I should stop in there. Yesterday was the day and I am glad I did. The woman there is super friendly and there are so many neat toys and books. She even wrapped it in pretty hearts wrapping papers with a cute bow. I had to power-walk the rest of the way back to the office, but it was certainly worth it.

Another gift, for moi???

So excited.

I'm learning my geometric shapes.

Such great pictures. Of course, we need one with mommy.

Better than any Rose on Valentine's Day... Our Lili.

Onto Training news: We’re back to running 18-miles on Saturday. Courtney asked to have it moved to Sunday but then emailed again saying she could do Saturday. I’m glad it’s Saturday because we’re off on Monday. Anyone else off on Monday?

Oh, and out of nowhere, as I’m getting out of my car this morning and walking into the office, I felt this nagging pain in my shin. I’m crossing my fingers it’s nothing serious. Any tips on what I should do? I have 6-miles on tap tomorrow and 18 on Saturday, so words of wisdom would be great right about now.

Happy Hump Day.

Baby’s First Christmas: Take Two

6:50 AM: Jackie Warner’s Xtreme Workout – COMPLETED

One of Allie’s many Christmas gifts to me was Jackie Warner’s Xtreme workout.

We I had a rough night. Lili is getting a bit of a cold and she kept waking up hour after hour after hour. She even had a poopy diaper at 3 in the morning. The truth is, how can you get even a little annoyed at this cute little face?

Anyhow, I woke up exhausted and out of it, but I wanted to get some workout in. I knew that if I didn’t do something, I’d be more tired. Jackie’s workout was actually pretty intense; even if for half an hour. I was dripping of sweat and had to lower my weights at one point. All-in-all, a highly recommended at home workout. Thanks for sending this to me, Allie.

I never answered what my favorite Christmas gifts were. Well, for now, I’ll leave you with the most favorite gift ever.

I’ve received some other wonderful gifts, but this gift is the absolute precious gifts of all. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

If you workout, do you feel off if you don’t get any type of workout in? Don’t wait till the 1st to set goals.

Holiday Parties Galore

Bob Harper’s Total Body Transformation – 6:30 AM: The Bar Method – COMPLETED

I can’t believe less than a week and it’s Christmas. Also, Lili turns 6-months on Thursday. Holy crap. I’m happy that 95% of the Christmas shopping is out of the way. I just have a few things I need to pick up, but lucky me, my boss is out of town and I’m going to have plenty of downtime to run out at lunch and finish things up. Sweet. One things for sure, I’d like to get a few outdoor runs this week (probably tomorrow and Thursday), so I’ll have to plan my shopping accordingly. Also, I have to make sure our house is cleaned because we’re having some family over next Monday. I’m not sure how hard that will be since we’ll be in and out of the house for the holidays. Lovely.

Speaking of holidays, this weekend was filled with holiday parties. On Friday night, we had our holiday dinner with the girls. My girlfriend, Phuong, hosted at her place and it was a lot of fun. Rachel & I didn’t arrive till close to 8.

The food was delicious and the conversations were endless.

The hostess with the mostest & I.

KJ & I.

The beautiful tree with Hello Kitty ornaments.

It was so much fun. A glass and a half of wine later, I realized it was almost 11PM. I had an early morning 10-mile run with running group and I had to get home if I wanted to have any type of energy. Rachel & I split at about 11:05 and I was home by 11:30. I stayed up to talk to P for a bit before hitting the sheets.

Holiday Party numero dos was on Saturday with my part-time job office. I was excited to see some of the girls. It was at a small intimate Italian restaurant. We ate, drank and talked. Then, it was time for the Christmas presents. I love getting gifts from my boss. She always puts so much thought into our gifts. I came home with lots of new goodies.

Our annual Christmas socks and this year, a set for Lili.

Date-Night pad.

She loved her gifts from us this year; a Moroccan cooking set, spices, coffee, etc.

It was a wonderful weekend full of holiday parties. Do you go to your holiday parties at work? We don’t do one at the full-time office. My big boss always goes away the week of Christmas. They used to do one before I was there, but we never really complained about not having one. Jacquie (co-worker and good friend) and I usually have dinner together with our husbands and we consider that a holiday party.

I was definitely looking forward to yesterday being a L-A-Z-Y day. We played, she took naps, and we ate… The perfect end to the perfect weekend (except for both the Giants & Jets losing).

Two Years Ago, Today…

8:00 AM: Bob Harper’s Totally Ripped Core – PENDING

Two years ago today, Pedro and I were both off from work. It was a Friday and we had to finish our Christmas shopping. I remember we had to stop at the Post Office because he bought me a new point & shoot and it got delivered while no one was home. I was excited because I really, really needed a new camera. When we picked it up, we stopped at Champs before we started last minute Christmas shopping. Pedro had no clue what to get his dad or brother. Finally, he said, “I think I’ll get him a watch.” So we stopped at Macy’s and couldn’t find a thing. As we walked out, we decided to get me some bubble tea. I get my bubble tea and then we sit right across the Rainforest Cafe. He tells me that maybe we’ll go to Jared’s to pick him out a watch. I said, “Alright, let’s go.” Then he adds, “Well, while we’re there, why don’t we pick out an engagement ring for you?” My eyes lit up and I said, “That sounds like a fantastic idea!” He proceeds to say, “No, no. That’s not a good idea at all.” I tell him it’s the perfect idea; the best idea he’s ever had. He says again, “No. No. It’s not a good idea… because, I already have it right here!” He pulls out a box and asks me to marry him.

This morning, he says, “Don’t you have something to say to me?” I say, “no… why?” He says, “You have nothing to say to me?” He says, “Happy engagement day!” And pulls out a box in my stocking.

My eyes lit up again like it did two years ago.

A second wedding band. Unexpected diamonds is always the best surprise.

Time to get my workout in before Sunday Mass, followed by food shopping and a day of football.

Do you like surprises out of nowhere? I mean, who wouldn’t? I’m not a huge “surprise” person. Don’t like surprise parties, but surprise gifts… well, that’s always fun.

Happy two-year engagement baby!

Secret Santa Mexican Fiesta

12/03/11: 9:00 AM: 8-Mile Run – COMPLETED

Yesterday was an incredibly busy day, which is probably why I was so extremely exhausted today. First of all, Lili had a bad night of sleep. I got her ready to leave before 8 and dropped her off at my in-laws. I then headed over to my running group and Courtney was already to go. We did the announcements – a few upcoming fun runs for the holidays and then proceeded to the trail for the first 3.5-miles. It was brisk, but definitely the perfect running weather. We were done by 10:28 and I had two handfuls of trail mix before heading back to get Lili. Before picking her up, I needed to make a quick stop at the supermarket. Seriously, I ran in and out. I scooped up Lili by 10:35 and home by 10:45. I played with her for a bit before putting her down for a quick nap and jumping in the shower. My sibs were coming by at 6pm so I still had so much to prepare.

The tables were set.

I baked two sets of cookies and then gave Lili a bath. At this point it was 5:25 and I needed to hustle on the cooking. Unfortunately, Lili did not want to cooperate, so she had to cook with me in the Baby Bjorn. I have to tell you, this product really has helped me get through a lot around the house.

We ate and then I played with Scarlett and Lili while everyone else was finishing up. I also had to feed Lili but she did not want to go down yet, so I put her in her swinger and we headed over to the living room for Secret Santa. First, Scarlett wanted to open up her gift from Lili. Lili doesn’t really have toys for her to play with, so at least she’d have something to play with for a bit.

Hmm… I wonder who my Secret Santa was…

The wrapping paper is so familiar…

LOL, Pedro had me. So yes, I wrapped my own gift.

A few pics of the gang.

Lili passed out during all the gift opening.

We chatted, laughed and had a grand old time. Everyone left around 10:20 and the kitchen was C-L-E-A-N-E-D before we headed to bed. Also, Lili slept 9-hours straight. The perfect day/night. The only problem was, I was exhausted this entire day. My laundry was NOT done, but we do have cable in our bedroom. That’s one good thing.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! It’s December, so how many holiday parties are you attending? I have two more coming up. One with my job and another with my girlfriends. Pedro’s job invites spouse/significant others, but I don’t think I will be attending.
