Never a Dull Moment

7:00 AM: 3.6-Mile Run w/ Tamar and Lili in Jogger – COMPLETED

I was determined to get a run in this morning since I have my 35-week OB/GYN appointment today. I think this means that after this appointment, I will have weekly visits till I deliver. I can’t believe the countdown is on one hand and we haven’t even prepared a thing for baby #2. Meanwhile, our tenants have a baby due in December and we hear them doing so many renovations to their place. Pedro and I are like, “wow, I wish I had their motivation!” And no, it’s not their first baby, however, both their boys are already 11 and 8 so it is almost like a first baby again.

Anyhow, my weekend was wonderful. Here’s out it went down.

FRIDAY: The big boss had his last meeting at 12 (they were half an hour late) and it was over by 12:30. As soon as they left he says, “Hey, Rach. You ready to go?” He didn’t even finish that last word and I had my bag on my shoulder walking towards the front door. HA. Pedro was at the park with Lili and they were getting ready to head home.

Peek-A-Boo, I -see-You

I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Lili was angry that they were leaving, but they had played for about an hour and it was HOT out. As soon as I got home, she was a bit cranky and getting ready for a nap. I put her down then got dressed to meet Tamar for a quick run. We did 3-miles, albeit slow, it was dreadfully hot out, so I had to stop every so often. Then we parted ways. We had plans to run the next morning though. When I got home, I hung out with Pedro and then ordered an early dinner since Pedro was heading out to Brooklyn to hang out with a friend. I showered and Lili woke up at some point. We played, then I gave her a nice long bath and then put her down. I laid in bed with her the whole time as P left at around 8:45. It was a nice quiet evening with lots of me getting up to pee moments.

Saturday: I slept weird since I kept getting up and even got a little worried when P wasn’t home at 4AM. He finally walked through the front door at 4:45 and I slept better. Lili and I hung out in bed till close to 8 and finally peeled out. First thing I did was make breakfast and then we painted. She went down for a nap earlier than usual and woke up at around 12:50 (when Pedro woke up). We ate lunch and then I showered and Lili and I went food shopping. We came home and then unpacked everything. I had a load of laundry going and then we headed out to the craft store. When we returned, Pedro set our stations up and Lili and I painted again. It was so much fun!!!

Painting 101

Painting 101

We didn’t have real paints because I didn’t want to spend the money on them yet. BUT I want to start painting for fun and as a hobby. You know, I should really be um, packing a hospital bag and pulling out newborn onesies and all.

Future Picaso

Future Picaso

So yeah, I took a much needed rest day and just had family fun. We ate dinner, I gave Lili a bath and then we put her down for the night. I laid out running clothes because I was determined to definitely run.

I woke up at around 6:45 and saw Tamar’s text. I was running a little behind but she was perfectly fine with that and we met up by 7:20. We weren’t sure how many miles we were going to cover and I would have been okay for anything over 8+ but I didn’t pack fuel and Lili was getting cranky so I did about 5.65 miles and Tamar had about 6.5 (and she went to the gym after!).

Run with the Girls

As soon as we were done, I told Lili I’d take her to the park and she was finally in better spirits. I’m not kidding when I tell you she was giving me the evil eye the last mile of our run. HA.

Sunday Park Fun

Sunday Park Fun

We stayed about an hour and then headed home. I make pancakes and Pedro joined us for breakfast. I finally put Lili down for a nap at around 11 and then showered. I straightened up a bit and then when Lili woke up, we got ready to go to the zoo.

Wait, penguins? Eh, not impressed.

Wait, penguins? Eh, not impressed.

She was too funny. Pedro would point to the animals, like, “Hey, Lili check out the monkey right there!” and Lili would point to the monkey’s water and say, “Hey papa, water!” HAHAHAAH. It was hysterical. The zoo was so incredibly hilly and it was hot. We left after an hour and 15-minutes but it was fun.

Hey Elephant... Now, don't eat me!

Hey Elephant… Now, don’t eat me!

HURRY MOM... This elephant looks hungry.

HURRY MOM… This elephant looks hungry.

Just me.

Just me.

My favorite man in my life.

My favorite man in my life.

We got home close to 5:45 and ate an early dinner. After dinner, we played a little bit more and then I baked cookies.

I put them away and gave Lili a bath. I read her a book and she was in bed by 9. Unfortunately, I felt queasy and vomited twice. Then I did my nails and called it a night by 12:15. Thank goodness I laid out running clothes.

Have you been to the zoo lately? What’s your favorite animal?

We asked Lili what her favorite animal was and she said the elephant. There really weren’t any elephants except the statue she took a picture with so we thought that was funny. 🙂

Anybody else have a short week this week? I’ll be busy today and tomorrow and my boss leaves for vacation Wed. Then I’m off Thurs.-Mon. Oh yeah..

Anyone else racing this weekend?
I’m debating on the 5k or 10k.

Hope everyone had a wonderful start to the week. I’m about to scoot out and head over to my doctor’s appointment.

To Resist or Not to Resist

6:00 AM: MMA TapOut XT Strength & Force – COMPLETED

All I can say is Allie is hardcore when it comes to working out. She recommended these workouts and I bet this is the easiest to the other workouts in this bundle (Plyo, Sprawl, etc, etc., etc.). In this workout, you don’t use weights but instead resistance bands and your own body weight. No, seriously, this guy L-O-V-E-S push-ups and I’m talking, all sorts of push-ups. I had the combination of sweat dripping off my face and back and shaky arms at the end of the workout. OUCH. Every single time I had to go down and do a push-up, Lili would grab my bands as she thought it was her turn.

Mommy, How many Bicep curls?

I love free-weights, but I am beginning to love the bands a lot more these days too. They are equally as difficult, if used correctly.

Anyhow, I have been writing my lists and crossing things off. I still have a ton to do (as the list never seems to end). I swear, I did four loads of laundry on Friday and managed to have three more on Saturday?!? I’m so confused. Where is this laundry coming from?!?

To Do:

Order contacts.
Balance checkbook.
Wash and fold laundry (still have two more to go).
Break down Lili’s jumper & pack and play.
Get passports together.
Straighten up the house. (Cleaning lady comes tomorrow instead of Thursday).

I really did do a lot this weekend including cleaning up Lili’s play-area. It’s still in pretty good shape… for now.

Has your little one escaped from the gates ever?!? Lili’s already starting to put her monkey toes in the holes and trying to climb up over it. She’s already put things beneath her so she could step right over it. She hasn’t made it yet, but it’s coming.

Two Kids

4:45 AM: 4-Mile Run – COMPLETED

Here’s some great news. Lili Bear slept straight through the night for the first time ever and in her crib. I picked her up from my parents house around 5:30. We were home by 6:10. Pedro and I played with her and then I gave her a bath. I fed her around 7:10 and then we played for a little bit more. She fell asleep in my arms around 8:10 and shortly thereafter, we placed her in crib. She fussed here and there but the next time she woke up was about 4:20. Changed her diapers and fed her. I placed her in her swinger and she hung out while I ran and fell asleep around 5 until 7:30. Now, let’s hope this is a new thing and she sleeps through the night all the time (if not longer). I won’t lie to you. I kind of wanted to sleep in bed with her. I love cuddling with her.

Anyway, I wanted to get a few things done after my run, but that didn’t happen. I’m still recovering from Sunday. I didn’t get to finish, but after the race, I was babysitting Scarlett. I didn’t really plan any activities, but I do have a lot of things that I knew Scarlett would like, i.e. pillows to make a house and she loves drawing.

She was good, for the most part. She helped give Lili a bath, change her diapers, cleaned up her toys (well, after having to tell her a million times to help). She was too cute. She’d lug around the stool (it’s her new thing) and follow me around.

Remember Lili on her bumbo? The bumbo was actually Scarlett’s when she was a baby. Then my sister gave it to me. I remember bringing up a week before I delivered. I was cleaning it off and Pedro said to me, “Um, what if we’re having a boy? Are you still going to use it?” Me: “Uh, YES! Who cares what color it is. It beats the hell out of spending extra dough on something she won’t be able to use after 7-8 months!”

When Scarlett came into the nursery, she wanted to sit it in. I tried to tell her she was too BIG for it, but she doesn’t like to listen.

I was afraid I’d have a hard time pulling her out of it.

Anyhow, after we put Lili down for bed, Scarlett and I watched Aladin.

Can you tell how tired I was?!? Scarlett fell asleep at 9:30 and I fell asleep shortly after. My BIL got to our house around 10:40 and carried her out. After I locked up, I checked on Lili, kissed P goodnight and went straight to BED.

Having Scarlett over was definitely hard work. It gave me insight on our future with a toddler and a baby. We figure if we start trying next year, Lili will be almost 2 when we have another newborn. I definitely want one more baby. I just hope I have the same pregnancy I had with Lili. Even though I puked a lot, it was a fabulous pregnancy overall.

Okay, hopefully I’ll be caught up with all the time I have off. I hope it goes by slow as molasses. I want to enjoy every second with Lili.

Sleeping without Baby: Take One

6:45 AM: 3-Mile Run – COMPLETED

It took me will and power to get my run in this morning. Lili was not trying to go down at her 5AM feeding and finally fell asleep on me around 6, which got me so comfortable that I fell asleep also. I woke up at 6:30 to transfer her to the swinger and then hopped on the tread. I really couldn’t hold it off to tonight because Pedro and I have to go to church for one of those sessions you attend when you baby is being Baptized. I’m going to have to rush out of here, go pick up Lili, give her a bath, eat dinner and then make our way to church. I should really prepare everything for the next day so that I don’t have to worry much about anything when we get home, or the next morning.

When Lili and I got home from my parents’ house, I hung out for a bit before heading home. Pedro helped me bring some groceries in while I took Lili in. Then I had to hand her over to him while I started the cooking phase. I was making Pedro a Shepard’s Pie and myself some Tortilla. I was done with my food, but Pedro’s took a little longer and by the second phase of his Shepard’s Pie, I was able to take Lili off his hands so that I could finish up putting the ingredients into the pie dish.

Remember the first time I used the Baby Bjorn? She gets fussy when she first gets in, but then she loves it. In fact, she falls asleep in it. HA. After half an hour, I took her out and put her in her playpen. Unfortunately, she lasted 15-minutes while Pedro and I were about to start eating our dinner. I rocked her in her rocker/sleeper and then we fed her.

On Sunday, Pedro and I discussed having Lili sleep in her nursery. We thought it was time for her to get used to sleeping in there because I’m a sucker for always wanting her to sleep in bed with me at some point in the night. I miss her too much, even when she’s next to me. I know, that must sound crazy. Anyway, on Sunday night, when the time came, I quickly took her into bed with me (not even in her bassinet next to the bed, literally in our bed). Pedro rolled his eyes. I just wasn’t ready.

So yesterday night, I started to prepare her nursery. I moved the monitors into her room, made her crib comfy, put a nightlight in, P put the fan in there and then I rocked her in the glider. It took two tries to finally get her down. I almost cried, but she’s right across the hall. Why can’t she sleep with me forever?

Anyway, next on the list is getting her off the binky. I was reading a book and it says by 3-months you should try to get them off the pacifier. I don’t know… she likes it only when she’s tired. So is it necessary for me to take it away from her?

One more day until we get a day off. I’m so looking forward to it. We have fun plans.

Baby Fever

08.24.11: 3.1-Mile Run (with speed intervals) – COMPLETED

6:05 AM: 2.20-Mile Run + Weight Training – COMPLETED

So, I thought I would have the time to sit in my new office (it’s not really an office since it’s part of the kitchen/dining area, but it’s my place to get away from things & blog & surf the net if I ever get the chance to), but we had important things to take care of and the number one thing was Lili. Even though I’m slightly bummed I haven’t been able to blog as often this month (seriously, every single time I’m ready to post an entry, something comes up, and the big thing was me going back to work.). I’m doing what I can though and blogging is really my outlet for downtime.

I was just about ready to sit down and type away when Lili started to stir up a cry. It wasn’t time for her feeding, but it was time to take her temp. I’ll get back to that in a minute.

I even put up some new pictures on my poster board just to feel inspired. Hopefully I will be able to sometime this weekend. So let’s break down the updates, shall we.

Baby Updates: Lili had her two-month visit yesterday and yes, the appointment was for 6:45 AM. Seriously, a doctor’s office opened that early? I don’t mind it though, and honestly, it’ll be better for when I actually have to go into work after. They changed my appointment last minute from afternoon to first thing in the morning telling me that they needed to see new patients first thing in the morning. It worked out well because then P came with me. I had a strong feeling that Lili was going to pee everywhere as soon as she got naked, and sure enough, she did just that; not once, but twice. Here’s her stats.

Lili is 11 lbs., 4 oz. So, that’s pretty much a 5 lb, 4oz weight gain. I think she was 23-inches long and her head measured at 25. The doctor said that left her in the 75th percentile for weight and 50-75% for heights. She was so good during her exam. She didn’t cry at all. Unfortunately, she had to have 3 shots and 1 oral medicine. She totally cried, but not terribly, during her shots. What a trooper. Before leaving, I set up an appointment for her ears to get pierced and her 4-month visit.

As soon as we left, we had to stop at CVS to get her Baby Tylenol. There would be a chance she would get a fever. As soon as we got home, I took her temperature, fed her and then the stinker pooped herself. It required me to give her a bath. After her bath, I wrapped her up and then we took her temperature again, and it was a low fever. So we gave her Tylenol. She fell asleep and for the first time, we decided to let her sleep in her nursery crib. Can you believe since she’s been born, she’s never taken a nap there???

Anyway, as soon as she went down, I knew I could sneak a run in. But, not even half an hour later, I hear her crying, so I take her into my arms and lay on the couch with her. We both take a long nap. I cut mine at an hour and a half, but she kept going. When she woke up, her temperature was still up. So I feed her and then put her back into the nursery. It was then that I could get my run in. After my run, I jump in the shower and by that point, P was there to take over. I ran to the supermarket and made dinner.

Are you tired yet?!? After dinner, P and I clean up together. That was when I saw it was only 7:45 and had time to catch up on some blogs and even my own blog. I saw Pedro taking her temp again, and poor baby, still another fever. We had to give her a third dose of Tylenol.

So yeah, my downtime was cut down to no time and I didn’t mind one bit. Lili comes first at all times.

Running/Training: I can’t complain that much. I was able to get my run in yesterday and today’s run was cut short a bit because Lili kept coming in and out of her sleep. It was definitely a rough night for both her and I, but of course, more for her. I know this will get better. Next week will definitely be more challenging. The first full week of her going to my mom’s and MIL’s. Hopefully it won’t be too bad. The good news is it should be a slow week. The last week of August tends to be laid back. I certainly hope that happens next week. I would love to get out early so I can enjoy some time with Lili Bear.

Wow, that was a lot to get out. At least it’s Friday tomorrow. I’m glad that I was able to take the day yesterday and spend it with Lili. I just wish she didn’t have a fever all day/night. I am relieved she’s all better though.

Time to get some work done.

Away from the Office

I can’t seem to find middle ground when it comes to blogging, being back at the office and spending time with Lili. I’m sure once I am fully adjusted I can blog regularly. I really do enjoy blogging and don’t want to neglect it, but time just seems to slip away.

The weekend also seems to also be slipping away and I’m sad that I have to conquer another full week of work away from Lili. She was so much fun this weekend. On Friday, I was able to get out of work two hours early and P dropped Lili off at my mom’s house. My parents knew I was stopping by, but they didn’t know that I was stopping by with Lili. I wanted to surprise them, and surprised they were. It worked out perfect because they Lili spent some time earlier with P’s parents and then the rest of the evening with mine. How fun! Lili and I got back home around 8:30 and boy was she tired. I wanted to make sure that we had some kind of schedule for tomorrow since Lili and were going to group run together for the first time. Hooray. Unfortunately, it’s crap-shoot when it comes to babies. We can’t predict when they’ll wake up, eat, sleep, or poop. Time was not on my side with Lili. She ended up waking up at the wrong time, but we made it work.

I spoke to Courtney all week confirming our meet-up at group. I also had an idea that she agreed to. Remember us in June when I was a few days shy of 40-weeks pregnant?

Well, here’s the after picture taken yesterday.

We tried to coordinate wearing the same clothes we wore the last time we met. Everything is the same except our bottoms — oh and the babies. LOL Meet the newest members of the Rose City Running Group. How stinkin’ cute is this photo? Oh, we also met a new member with her little baby. Jen and Juliana.

Jen just moved back to the area. Her husband and her lived in England for 3-years and before her baby was born, they moved back to the states. Her husband is currently training for an Ironman and her baby girl, Juliana, is now 4-months. We chatted with her for awhile and talked about how I went back to work after 7-weeks and how hard it is. Lucky for her, she is on UK maternity leave and guess what? They get NINE MONTHS of maternity leave. I am jealous.

Here’s Lili’s second mom; a/k/a the woman that delivered Lili. I love this woman. She’s currently training for a marathon in a few weeks and poor woman fell twice on her long run on Friday. She fractured a rib and still came out to group run. Hope you feel better, Viv.

When I got home from group (after visiting the folks at my part-time job), Aunt Anna stopped in to visit Lili.

Perhaps Lili will have a friend to play with soon?!? Check out Lili’s face. She was full…

My little butterball.

Anyway, after she left, I fed Lili and Pedro said he was bored, so we ended up going for our first family walk in the neighborhood. FYI, this walk ended up being an hour and a half. We were exhausted after and I won’t lie… Lili and I were tucked into bed by 8:45.

Thank goodness for Pedro. He did 3 loads of laundry and washed the dishes. Then, this afternoon, he went food shopping for me, too. Nice… Alright, I need to finish up the laundry — yes, we have 6-loads.

Another Week, Another (perhaps last) Update

5:45 AM: One-Hour Spin – COMPLETED

Okay, so I had my appointment this morning with the OB and was not expecting to hear this news. Here’s what I was expecting to hear. “Okay, so you’re due tomorrow. Let’s get you in for one more U/S and if you don’t go this week, we’ll induce you early next week.” Instead, I heard this come out of her mouth, “Okay, I think you’ll go soon. But, I think we should schedule you to be induced by tomorrow night for Wednesday morning. How does that sound?” WOAH… Okay, that took me by surprise. My mom will definitely be happy with this news as she said yesterday, “If you don’t give birth by tomorrow, get induced by tomorrow night!”

There’s nothing to be concerned about at all. All my stats are in order; my B/P is back to pre-pregnancy B/P (120/70), weight is same, baby’s heartbeat is nice and strong, head down, measuring well, etc. So we’re looking good. What I was fearful about? I think it was having to have a c-section. I want to avoid that and she reassured me that just because I get induced does not mean I will need to have a c-section. She just feels that there may not be enough room for baby to grow, so she wants me to get induced. I am full-term, so we’re on track.

Phew… she told me to call Pedro to let him know, but I said this to her, “Let me ask you this question? Do you feel that me getting induced is the best thing to happen?” Her answer, “Yes. I do think it is the best thing.” My response, “That’s all that matters and that’s all that he would care to know from you.” So that’s where we are.

What am I feeling? Anxious, but also, “Oh sh*t!#%#$ We need to finish up some last minute things before we head to the hospital tomorrow!!!!” At least the nursery is pretty much done.

When I got home from the doctor’s office, I had to tell Pedro what was going on. I knew he’d freak out no matter how I addressed the issue. He was still sleeping, but I kind of rubbed his shoulder. He asked how my appointment well and I proceeded to tell him that it went well. Then I added, “Okay, we’re going to the hospital tomorrow night to get induced and we should have Baby S on Wednesday!” Yeah, that woke him up immediately — first with lots of concerns — “Why? Is baby okay? Don’t lie to me!” After much discussion, we broke the news to family.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s almost here. I can’t wait!!!! For now, I better get some house work done. Maybe even one last mani/pedi…. Will keep you all posted.

A Happy Papa’s Day

7:30 AM: Spinning – COMPLETED

It’s almost 6 and we managed to spend time with Pedro’s family and mine in just four hours total. Pedro’s family had plans at 2:30 and mine at 3. My mom has to work tonight, so we decided that to work this out, we would go to his mom’s house by 1pm to have appetizers. We knew the rest of the family wouldn’t be there until after 2-2:30, but this is life after marriage, right? We just have to try and make the best of things and that is exactly what we did.

So, we had some apps with his family, then left quarter to 3 (this is perfect because we live close by to his family), put gas in my mom’s truck that she loaned us for the entire weekend, dropped off the Moses basket at my parents and then headed over to the restaurant. My sister and her family were there already.

And now, I’m home just relaxing. I had such a busy morning. I made it to spin, showered at the gym, returned some curtains at Target and picked up a few things. Then I came home, ate, put some laundry in the washer, did a second load and then Pedro got ready. Busy, busy morning as usual. I gave Pedro his first, Father’s Day card — even though it’s not really official. I didn’t give him a gift, but he’s got his mini man-cave going on, and boy does it look good.

Here is the “Before” picture. Remember it used to be my workout room?

It has now transformed to his room.

Just so you know, he won’t leave the room… ever. Unless he’s having a late night snack. I’ve lost my husband. He is looking on Ebay for a sign that reads, “No Wives, No Babies”. I’m going to have to pull a Peg Bundy and make him destroy his castle. But for now, I’ll have to “plot” things out. Wish me luck.

Sleep, Sleep, Sleep

6:50 AM: Weight Training (Upper & Lower Body) – COMPLETED

When I speak of sleep, I’m talking about the newborn baby that’s about to make a debut. Last night, I realized that this baby is going to have so many places to nap/sleep. I know, I know… newborns do three things: Sleep, Eat, & Poop. Fortunately, we have a year long supply of diapers, thanks to mom. Eating won’t be much of a problem either because we have a ton of formula, but also, I intend to breastfeed.

Sleep, however, well we’ve been given so many wonderful gifts for our precious baby to sleep in. My mom gave us our beautiful crib. However, other places for baby to stay in when s/he’s just a wee bit tiny will be in the following:

1. Bassinet: My sister gave this to us about a year and a half ago. I am pretty sure Pedro and I weren’t even married yet, but we knew eventually we’d have babies. Also, my sister doesn’t intend to have any more babies, so she gave this to beautiful bassinet to us that Scarlett used when she was first born. Of course, since it was in our closet, it was dusted and the cloth needed to be washed. It took my forever last night to put back together — I mean, at least 45-minutes and towards the end, Pedro came over to help me.

I’m glad I didn’t go postal on this because it really is a beautiful bassinet. A pro is that it rolls from room to room. Also, you can take off the Moses basket and put another piece on top to change the baby’s diapers. It also holds blankets on the bottom piece and diapers, powder, baby wipes, etc. We can use this bassinet until the baby gains 25 lbs.

2. Moses Basket: My wonderful boss of 13 years had this Moses basket stored away for two years! She knew eventually I was going to have a baby and had been stocking up on some things. She’s seriously like family.

Isn’t she a beauty? We’re contemplating keeping this one at my mom’s house because it’ll be easier to carry and secondly, I go back to work 6-weeks after I have the baby. The baby can easily sleep in this basket.

Thanks again, Doc.

3. Rocker/Sleeper: With this on my gift registry, it was a gift from one of the girls at my baby shower (but she doesn’t even know it! I used her gift card). I was so happy when it came in the mail yesterday.

It was after 9 when we finished the bassinet but I was determined to get this baby together. It was pretty simple and so convenient because it folds.

Two huge Pros: As I mentioned it folds up and can easily be carried from room to room or even to someone’s house. Also, it rocks back and forth. I gave it a good test try while sleeping in bed. Holds up to 25 lbs.

So how does one put baby down for nap? Some people like to read and we received plenty of reading materials from our baby shower. They have been laying around collecting dust on baby’s dresser until I nagged about getting a shelf already. We didn’t want to get a book shelf because we didn’t want to block any artwork if we didn’t have to, so we decided to get a shelf that we can drill into the wall. Pedro picked out a nice sturdy piece and while I was cursing under my breath while putting the Bassinet back together, he was putting up the shelf.

I have to say, it looks amazing and he did such a great job.

We don’t have bookends… so for now, we’re improvising.

So, what do you think? I think we’re almost done with the baby’s room, but there are still a few things around the house that need to get done. I wanted to do so much more, but didn’t have the time to get to it and I feel awful because the maid comes today. Hopefully it’s not too hard for her to clean around certain areas.

So close to the weekend. I’m looking forward to it. Happy Thursday.
