So Long Summer

It’s my FRIDAY and it’s going to be a nice long weekend (right before the chaos starts, A/K/A SCHOOL).  I don’t know if it’s been obvious that I’ve been M.I.A. but things have been a tad crazy.  I’ll sum it up this way:

The kids got sick from camp.  We knew it was going to happen.  They ended up with coxsackie, which left me home with them for a week.  Actually, I came in for a day and a half until one of the attorney’s sent me home because he was afraid I was contagious.

coxsackie

Unfortunately, there is no real treatment for Coxsackie. Just have to monitor the fevers, as they go as high as 104.  Sebastian had it first from a Sunday-Tuesday and Lili got it from Tuesday-Thursday.  What a mess.

We had a serious case of cabin fever after being stuck at home for 9-days.  So by Friday, we headed over to our hairdresser’s house.  She has two kids but first, Lili cut off 10-inches of her hair.

She donated it to CWHL (Children with Hair Loss).  Afterwards, we stayed for a few hours so the kids could play.

We ended up having lunch with my in-laws then headed over to my parents to hang out for a bit.  Since the kids were really contagious, we hadn’t seen them in some time.

The next morning, we received a last minute text to meet up with my girlfriend and her kids at the park.  We hadn’t seen them in some time so we made a point to make it over.

FYI, Lili loves her new hairdo.

We caught up for about two hours before we had to head home and over to Julian’s football game. Poor kids were tired but they woke up by the time we got there.

On our way back home we picked up pizza and nachos.  It was a LONG and HOT day.

Sunday (08/21/16), my girlfriend Rachel was coming over and I made her favorite, Tortilla Espanola.

I was happy to see her.

The rest of the week we were back to normal and back to camp.  Also, we rescheduled a play-date that we canceled because I was afraid kids were still contagious.  (08/26/16)

One of the trails I run by my office has a Fairy Trail.  One of the mothers and her son with autism make random little fairy houses for everyone to come and see. It is SO cute.

Kids did great looking for fairy houses and had a ton of fun.  I can’t believe they walked for over an hour.  After, we went back to my girlfriend’s house and the kids played some more.

So, just ONE MORE WEEK until both kiddos are in school. I have more to update on.  Some good, some, unfortunately bad… But I’ll have to get that post together.  I have been running and working out regularly. I leave you with this:

Hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend. You deserve it!

10k Tuesday

5:30 AM: 10-K + Squat Challenge Day 2 – COMPLETED

Hey Tuesday! It’s 50-degrees out today and tomorrow it’ll be 62 + rain.  I’m hoping the rain will hold off so I could meet Cici for a run. Otherwise, we are going to aim for Thirsty Thursday evening run.  Works out perfectly since Thursday is my Friday (insert happy swivel in my chair dance).

I managed to wake up a 5AM this morning even though I had very little sleep.  On top of that, I had a very busy evening when I got out of work.  Lili and I picked up her brother, headed home, got the kids ready for bed (bathed and jammies even though it was still early), preheated oven, put a load of laundry in the wash, put the lasagna in the oven, played with the kids for a few and hopped on the tread for another 3-mile run (I know, I ran 6 miles that morning).  As soon as I finished, the lasagna was done.

lasagna

And it was delicious.  I put some away for my sister since she asked me if I could send her home with some leftovers after gymnastics tonight.  After dinner, I cleaned up the kitchen, swept the floors and got the kids into bed.  Pedro ended up getting on the treadmill for a run/walk while watching part of the basketball game.  He just got his Fitbit so he was determined to at least get his 10,000 steps in! So proud of that kid.

Writing things down always helps me tackle what I need to get done.

planner

And yes, I borrow some of Lili’s stickers.

Do you still write in a planner? Or do you use the calendar on your phone?

We’re headed to gymnastics tonight! My sister is picking up B since she’s having an early dinner with my parents.  The kids love the gymnastics equipment that we bought them for Christmas.  BIG HIT!!! If they could, they’d sleep on it.Oh wait….

sleepy babe

We only take it out during the weekend.  Monday night it goes back into the closet until Friday morning.  Hopefully they won’t get sick of anytime soon.

Do you have a Fitbit? Let’s be friends if you do.  My Fitbit Charge recently started to come apart, so P bought me the Surge. I am loving it.  I’ve always been a Garmin girl, but I think the Surge is really neat.

Have a great Tuesday.

Three Things Wednesday

Easy Run – COMPLETED

Three things Wednesday.

1. P got fan mail from Lili at work today.

Once every so often when Lili comes to work with me, she writes him a letter. We mail it to his office and when he gets it, it makes his day.

2. MEXICAN TACO SALAD. My favorite…

3. Sole RUN… YIPPPEEEE. Two days in a row that I get to see my solemate — well, it’s gotta be a grreeeeat week. Love you, Cici.

But what AM I LOOKING AT?

Happy Wednesday! I gotta play catch-up. It’s been busy at work.

Graduations, Father’s Day & a Birthday

June is always a busy month. I started off my morning with weights. Oh, but wait… I guess first we celebrated with a little birthday surprise. Our Liliana turns 4 today.

It’s amazing how time flies. Anyway, she had a hard time sleeping last night so I stayed with her while P prepped for her AM birthday festivities. He did an amazing job with putting balloons everywhere.

She was happy but she’s still a bit sick. I’ll get to that in a bit. We didn’t send her to school today nor will she attend the last day tomorrow. So sad. She won’t see her friends one last time or her teacher. P will have to drop off their ‘THANK YOU’ gifts.

The weekend was great. On Friday, I woke up early and I attended Lili’s Pre-K breakfast with parents and the kids sang a song.

Summer Weather

It is BEAUTIFUL out today. Unfortunately, I had to settle for the good old ‘mill for my morning run. P will be cleaning off the jogger tonight and I can finally take the kiddos out for a run. It would really be B’s first time experiencing runs in the jogger. I mean, he was SO little when I would take him. Most of the time, he’d fall asleep. So I’m very, VERY interested to see how he will be throughout a run (short or long). I remember Lili used to be able to sit in the jogger for at least 2+ hours. The longest run she was in the jogger was over 10 miles. Granted, she was 2 years old. She was still a trooper.

We had a lovely weekend and Lili is pretty much all better (aside from allergies and a mild cough). On Friday morning, I woke up with the kids on the later side and we started our day. I was happy to have Lili home for the day. I put some learning music on and the kids helped me bake a banana bread. Then I made a three egg with cheese omelette (kids ate most of it and only left me with two bites). After the banana bread was done, I put a load of laundry in and baked cookies. When the cookies were done, I was ready to RUN.

Freshly Baked Goodies

Freshly Baked Goodies

I caught up with most of Grey’s Anatomy on my run (it was a 2-hour episode, but really 85 minutes on ABC.COM, so I still had about 25 minutes left). I’m just not feeling it after they killed of McDreamy. I’m still mourning. At least I’m over the denial. The kids were thrilled that I was done with my run.

MOMMY'S DONE!!!!

MOMMY’S DONE!!!!

After my run, I put another load in the wash and the one in the dryer, took a quick shower and then started Lili on some school work. I emailed her teacher to ask her what she missed last week and she missed the letter Z, the number 13, more on symmetry, estimation and the new thing they’re learning is about volume. So many things.

Busy Worker

Busy Worker

We worked for about an hour and then I put the kids down to nap. By 2pm, I had to wake them up, get them dressed and we had to pick up some papers at my in-laws that they needed notarized. I then headed over to pick up my niece from school and my sis left the house key.

When we got to my sister’s, I let the dog out, made sure Scarlett washed her hands, put her lunch bag away and she practiced the piano.

Piano Practice

After, they had a quick snack and played. My sister did not get home for another two hours so I prepared their dinner and when my sis got there, we all ate. She let Georgie back in and initially B was scared. After 15 minutes, he was HAPPY and they were best buds.

The cousins had so much fun and I left with another bag of clothes from my sister.

We were home by 8:30 and P was sad the Nets lost. I gave Lili a quick bath and into bed they went. Exhausted.

Saturday morning I woke up and made breakfast. Then I ran 3 miles and showered. I did another load of laundry, put the kids down to nap and then P went to run errands. When he got home, I fed the kids lunch and then we went outside to play. P was mowing the lawn and cutting the hedges.

It was beautiful. We got lucky with great summer-like weather. BUT, the pollen was crazy high. After an hour or so, Lili complained that her nose was runny and her eyes were watery and wanted to stay inside now. I started dinner and folded the laundry. Kids ate and then I gave them a bath.

P and I decided last minute to order the fight. What a waste… but I guess we would have been more mad if we missed something big. HA! It started so late though — Almost midnight on the east coast. So yeah, you know I did not sleep until 1AM.

I took off from working out yesterday and fed kids and myself breakfast before Sunday mass. Don’t even ask how we got there. Mass starts at 10:30 and I didn’t get into the shower until 10. Then P said he wanted to come so jumped out of bed and into the shower by 10:10. We were about 5 minutes late but it worked out perfect and both kids did great.

When we got home, I put B down for a nap, came out and fed Lili lunch and then we got ready for her classmate’s 4th birthday party. It started at 2pm and she was so exited. Unfortunately, not many of her classmates came. Out of 17 kids, only 3 of them from school were there.

Lili and I did the food shopping after the party and then came home. Thank goodness we had leftovers.

My weekend in a nutshell. I know, that’s pretty darn long. HA!

Did anybody else order the fight? I was putting the kids down when I heard P playing a video game. Don’t think for a minute I walked into his room and scolded him — I told him I didn’t care if it was commentary, biographies on the boxers, or the opening act boxers, but he better be watching WHATEVER is on because it’s costing us $100.

Who were you rooting for? Of course I was #teampacquiao.

Anybody else watching the playoffs?

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

The Vicious Sick Cycle = Sleep Deprivation

My sleep deprivation is leaning heavily towards the chronic side. I.am.exhausted! It doesn’t help that Lili had a 102+ fever at 11:30pm on Sunday night and 1:30 AM last night (early morning) we had to give her medicine. And it didn’t help that B wouldn’t stop nursing between 1:40-4 AM.

Okay, done complaining. Seriously, there are worst things out there. I don’t mind not getting sleep for my little ones. They’re such hams. Really.

Quick recap. On Wednesday night we celebrated my MIL’s 66th Birthday. It was good. I ended up stopping by this yummy bakery. BEST.GOODIES.EVER! I couldn’t decide what NOT to get. I think that’s how you know you’re in trouble. Anyway, she had dinner there and we ate, sang and opened gifts.

I washed dishes and we hung out for a little bit longer before heading home. I gave kids a bath and got them ready for bed.

Thursday night, we got home and had to go over Lili’s cultural background. We did it while I was cooking dinner and while we ate. It was a long evening. BUT it had to get done. P and I had to finish putting the poster board together and the next morning, Lili helped glue the rest but overall, I think it came out great.

We had stickers stamped into the book of some countries including, Spain, Ecuador and the Philippines. We were happy with the results. Of course, when I drop her off at school the next morning, her teacher was absent. Nice.

After drop off, I came home, ran for one hour on the treadmill while watching Grey’s Anatomy. DID ANYBODY ELSE WATCH THIS? WHO ELSE CRIED AND IS STILL ANGRY? Took me forever to get over. Thank goodness for this handsome fellow being able to turn my frown upside down.

Anyway, after I watched it, I showered, put B down for a nap and then when he woke up, we ate something quickly, changed and headed out to run errands. I had to pick up a gift certificate for my FIL at this French restaurant. Then I picked up lunch/early dinner for my in-laws. We were celebrating his birthday.

We had half a cake left from Wed. evening, so we sang Happy Birthday again and let me tell you, it still tasted good two days later.

P showed up later that evening and then we got home by 7:30. It was nice. Saturday was low-key. I was exhausted and so were the kids so I did laundry, cleaned and we did a lot of fun arts/crafts and played with play-doh.

Sunday, I got up early, did my morning run and then we headed over to the mall to get the kids a haircut.

Wwwwwwww-ahhhhhhh

Wwwwwwww-ahhhhhhh

I knew something was wrong though when we got home from the mall. Lili had been complaining that she was tired and just wanted to rest on the couch. She had taken a nap earlier that day so I thought it was strange. It wasn’t until after bath and a few hours after that she felt warm. Poor kid. I’m leaving work at 2:15 to take her to the doctor’s office. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.

I’ve been getting most of my runs in during the morning because lunch has been unpredictable. I actually prefer AM runs. I just can’t wait till Lili is on her summer break so we could break out the jogger.

Can’t believe it’s almost May. Anybody have any vacation/getaways planned? We don’t have any set plans yet but hopefully somewhere we can relax.

Did you watch Grey’s Anatomy? Did you cry? Will you still watch? I’ll still watch and I am still in shock and mourning…

Have a great Tuesday!

Let’s Catch-Up

Wow, talk about being out of the loop over here. After I got sick, both kids were sick and I ended up having to take B to the doctor’s on two separate occasions. He had a fever as high as 104 for 4-days straight and the doctor said it was just viral. A few days after, he broke out in a rash (nothing terrible) and I had a feeling it was Roseola. Sure enough, it was…

Sick Bubs

Sick Bubs

The rash went away within two days and he was back to himself. 🙂

So even though I’ve been gone, I’ve been keeping up with my runs/workouts. It’s been tough but I’m finally feeling like my runs are consistent and I am trying to find a good race to put in the books.

Today is my MIL’s birthday.

Happy Birthday

After her hand surgery, she’s been in pain, but has been keeping her spirits high. I don’t know how she deals with the pain. I’m such a wimp when it comes to pain.

Anyway, we had our first weekend where nobody was sick (I mean, I still have this nagging cough, but nothing crazy), so we took advantage and drove down to P’s Alma mater. We decided to have a picnic at Rutgers Garden.

What’s your ethnic background? I am Filipino (though I always like to add in the 1/8 Chinese from my great grandfather who was 100% Chinese) and P is 50% Spanish, 50% Ecuadorian.

Holidays Means Family

Hey there, Monday. Thanks for being almost 70-degrees today. Unfortunately, we’re scheduled for RAIN for the next five days, so I took advantage of running outdoors today. There’s no school this week for most kids (spring break) so I don’t have to pick Lili up. I left the office at 11 for my run and headed over to the high school for a good track workout.

After the park, (we stayed maybe an hour), I asked my niece if she wanted to sleep over and she wanted to, so we headed home. P met us at the park so followed. I ended up preparing dinner and took out the big WOK.

After dinner, the kids had their baths and they were all asleep by 8:30 PM. Go me! Of course, they were all up at 6:30 AM. Lili came into our bedroom and said, “Mommy, I just wanted to say I love you!” Then walked out — but then I heard the girls giggling up a storm and so got up and started the day.

Mimi was coming over in the morning to do some Easter Egg activities. Scarlett wouldn’t be spending Easter with us as she would be with her father that weekend, so we didn’t want to leave her out. I started preparing breakfast.

I baked banana bread and an almond pound cake.

While they ate, I started preparing croquetas. My MIL had leftover turkey meat from the previous Sunday and I needed to still prep the ingredients. It’s so laborious but I was determined to get them done. They had to chill in the fridge for at least 3-4 hours before I could start the second process — and to actually cook some up.

Anyway, after that was all done and dishes were washed, we started some Easter fun. First we dyed the eggs.

Windy Wednesday

Happy April Fools Day! Someone at the office got fooled today.

Someone took their time on their lunch break. Unlike myself, I used my lunch break to hit the track. Although it was crazy windy out, I am happy that the track is cleaned off and there is NO snow on it.

Ommmmm...

Ommmmm…

I was also happy that the track was EMPTY. The high school kids didn’t even come out at lunch. I am lucky the track is a mile away. So I did my warm-up (1-mile), dynamic stretches, then 5x400s with 400 recovery in between. Cool-down was my 1-mile back to the office. And there you have it, a 5-mile workout at lunch time.

Then I came back to this waiting for me on my desk.

Anybody get fooled today? or did you pull a prank?

Ten Years Ago

Ten years ago today, I met my husband. I didn’t see him for over a year after that first meeting, but it was the first time we were introduced. Who would have thought that a year and half after we’d end up together. During our “decluttering” project, I found a cigar box hidden all the way on the back top of the bookshelf. I had no idea what was in it but when I blew the dust off and opened it, I found this inside.

2006-2009

2006-2009

P had saved almost all of my notes I used to write to him every single morning before I left for work. I would find a piece of scrap paper just to say “good morning” and “i love you”. I was thrilled to find these letters. I’m not sure which one of us was the sweet one; myself for writing him a love note every morning or he for saving them!

I probably stopped writing him notes by the time we were married or had Lili. But I still send him letters from work every now and then. This time our letters are from Lili and myself and/or just pictures with post-it notes of how I think he’s doing a wonderful job as a papa.

Anyway, enough sappiness for the day. Rough morning today. I woke up at 5:45 but again, B was up nursing. When I finally did get him down, I had to unfold the tread, prepare dinner for the evening (a new crock pot recipe — Beef Stew,

get the kids breakfast ready — then Lili woke up, so she ate, I changed into running gear, then B woke up so I had to give him some breakfast, washed the dishes, make Lili’s lunch and then hopped on the tread for 3. I have to finish my run this evening. I just did not have time for 6. I had to get Lili ready for school, B dressed and myself showered and dressed.

How did you meet your significant other? So yeah, we met 10 years ago at my sister’s apt. warming party, Napoleon Dynamite was on and I was doing some Dance, Dance Revolution with friends. We didn’t say anything else to each other except, “hi, nice to meet you” and that was that… until January 19, 2006 when we officially became “friends”.

What’s your favorite crock pot recipe? I was so mad I ran out of liners for my crockpot. ARGH@#$#%#$ It’s a pain in the ass to clean. Oh well… I like some sausage and peppers in the crock pot. Always a favorite of mine. I hope this beef stew comes out delicious. I’ll let you know tomorrow.
