First Week of School & DIY

6-Mile Run

The kids started school a week ago and it went pretty well.  It’s difficult when the kids are in two different schools.  It means having to miss one of their first days but P and I worked it out.  I went with Sebastian and P went with Lili. Unfortunately, Lili was not happy with this arrangement (and she even cried) so I promised her I would go the next day.

I was apprehensive about Sebastian even though we did a few weeks of camp.  He seemed excited but then he would cling onto my leg.  He kept saying that he wanted me.  So I moved around the classroom until I found something to keep him busy.

I left him as happy as could be. And when I picked him up, he was even happier.

It was a successful first day of school. Of course P has to drop off Lili and he doesn’t take pics like I do… She also had a successful first day of Kindergarten, so I took these two the last times I did drop off.

The teacher was fully aware that it was Sebastian’s birthday on Sunday so she told me if I wanted to bring something in for the kids, I could do so that Friday.  Sebastian’s face lit up when he saw me bring him balloons.

I brought some munchkins in for him. He was happy.

Lili has been happy with school too, especially since I walk her some morning.

She happens to be the only girl on our block with four boys her age.  It’s kind of cute.

Since our biggest daycare supports (my in-laws are in Spain and my dad will be hospitalized) aren’t around, P and I are all over the place with drop offs and pick ups.  Our deal right now we alternate drops off in the AM and scramble for pick-ups in the PM.  I ended up making an nifty calendar that I absolutely LOVE.

diy-calendar

You could use paint chips from Home Depot or Loews, but if you recall I’m an arts/crafts hoarder. Anyhow, all you need are 2×2 colorful cards, 16×20 frame, double-sided tape, and washable thin expo markers.

Yeah, I go a little crazy.

A LOT OF PLANNING!! And, I absolutely love my new planner.

new-planner

It’s like a scrapbook/planner.  I purchased this one at Michael’s.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!

Big thing about pick-ups for the next few weeks is I HAVE TO WORKOUT IN THE MORNING!!! I mean, I always do workout in the AM, but sometimes if I miss it, I am able to squeeze something in at lunch.

Do you plan your day out? Week? Month? Do you use a planner or outlook calendar? I am a planner whore, for lack of a better word, HA. I’m always looking for something new, but I think I’ll stick to this one for as long as I can.

Let’s Catch-Up

Wow, talk about being out of the loop over here. After I got sick, both kids were sick and I ended up having to take B to the doctor’s on two separate occasions. He had a fever as high as 104 for 4-days straight and the doctor said it was just viral. A few days after, he broke out in a rash (nothing terrible) and I had a feeling it was Roseola. Sure enough, it was…

The rash went away within two days and he was back to himself. 🙂

So even though I’ve been gone, I’ve been keeping up with my runs/workouts. It’s been tough but I’m finally feeling like my runs are consistent and I am trying to find a good race to put in the books.

Today is my MIL’s birthday.

Happy Birthday

After her hand surgery, she’s been in pain, but has been keeping her spirits high. I don’t know how she deals with the pain. I’m such a wimp when it comes to pain.

Anyway, we had our first weekend where nobody was sick (I mean, I still have this nagging cough, but nothing crazy), so we took advantage and drove down to P’s Alma mater. We decided to have a picnic at Rutgers Garden.

It was a great day. And the next day, we ended up staying in, doing arts and crafts and I baked my mac and cheese and my MIL’s delicious torta (it’s like a lemon pound cake).

And then I had to do so much laundry, clean out closets and then put away clothes. We had dinner at my sister’s a few nights ago and she was getting rid of clothes that no longer fit her. Turns out I scored three full bags.

We ended up leaving later than I had anticipated. B was sleeping and Lili was already winding it down with her cousin.

But yeah, this week at work has been pretty awesome because I don’t have to think about what I will wear. It’s been more of a “hmm, what won’t I wear to work?” this week.

So tonight, we’ll probably pick up a pizza pie and have dinner at my in-laws. I can’t wait to give her the gift we made.

We made her this cork board on Sunday’s arts and crafts night. And then we ordered her Ray-Bans.

She was asking for them recently so we bought them for her.

I think that’s enough catching up for now. Can’t wait to catch up with everyone else. I have this school multicultural project to work on for Lili that is due on Friday. Love when her school gives last minute projects.

How’s your week going?

What’s your ethnic background? I am Filipino (though I always like to add in the 1/8 Chinese from my great grandfather who was 100% Chinese) and P is 50% Spanish, 50% Ecuadorian.

Fam-Time

The recipe for an amazing weekend: Sleep in when it rains. Steal extra hugs and kisses when you can. Spend time with your parents and siblings. DIY projects. And more… Unfortunately, it didn’t start out on a great foot. One of P’s good friend’s father passed away so on Thursday night we attended his wake. P was attending the funeral the next morning. Mimi was able to watch the kids when I got out of work while I went to the wake. I fed the kids dinner really quick and gave them a bath so I wouldn’t have to deal with it when I got out of the wake.

Halloween Friday was spent dropping Lili off at school, running errands and then heading over to my office to trick or treat. The small town I work in had a “trick or treat” event (50 stores participating) for preschoolers and kids. It was perfect. We visited with the attorneys and my co-worker then headed over to trick or treat. I wish I took Lili out of school but I knew she was looking forward to going to school and celebrating with her friends.

On another note, Halloween is one of our favorite holidays. I mean, who doesn’t LOVE chocolate/candy? It was also one of the first moments that I knew P and I were going to have children. Back in 2007, his niece who was 6 at the time had kidney cancer. We spent many days in and out of the hospital. One of the days she was in the hospital was on Halloween. P showed up at the hospital as Mr. Incredible.

She was so happy. And he was a huge hit. All the doctors and nurses came by to see him and then asked if he could make rounds to all the children on the floor. He happily took part.

Anyway, after all was said and done, it was time to pick up Lili. Sebastian fell asleep on the car ride to her school. We picked her up and then headed over to my in-laws to visit. We ended up staying for an early dinner and trick or treating after. We left there around 6 and back HOME. My brother and his girlfriend stopped by to visit and then when they left it was BATH and BED time. We had a great night. Later that night, my sis dropped off my niece for a sleep over. Unfortunately, she came at 9 so really, they just SLEPT.

We woke up late on Saturday morning because it was RAINING and GLOOMY. Since we woke up late, Lili ended up missing her dance class. She was waking up at 8 and we still had to have breakfast. I made pancakes, fed the kids and then they played. We did some arts and crafts early in the afternoon.

Cousins

Poor Sebastian. The girls would run away from him and scream and he’d chase them screaming thinking they were “playing” with him when they were actually trying to “get away” from him. Awww, my poor baby. Anyhow, at one point I tried to put Lili down for a nap but she wasn’t having it. So I traced their bodies, showered and then we headed over to my parents house for dinner.

My sister was running the NYC Marathon. Yes, I cried a bit watching the coverage because I wish I was there. It’s unfortunate that I sprained my ankle (it’s 95% better now but I still am not going to run on it yet!) three weeks prior to the race. At least I am in for 2015. So we ate dinner, I set up the kids to decorate their full-sized body tracing.

While they finished up their art work, I helped my sister with her racing gear.

The throwaway pants she had did NOT fit over her actual capris so we made a quick stop at my house so she could borrow one of mine. When I got back, my mom had a bath ready for me!!!! Love her.

When I was done, we bid my brother and his best friend farewell as they left for a Halloween party.

I would have slept over but Lili wanted to go home. So home we went. We spent most of Sunday lounging around watching the NYC Marathon. I tracked a bunch of my friends that did awesome and my sister FINISHED. It wasn’t her first marathon, but her first marathon without much training. Took her awhile but the important thing is she got that medal.

I spent the rest of the evening writing in my journal.

Then we ate dinner, gave baths, put the kids down, folded four loads of laundry and straightened up the bedroom.

What a night!!!

Anyone go to any Halloween parties? Eat too much Halloween candy/chocolate? I ate too much sugar I think I actually need to detox.

Do you still write in a journal? Scrapbook? Or do you do everything online through your blog? I like to do both. I’m old-fashioned sometimes and like to flip through the pages…

I can’t believe it’s November folks. Where did this year go?

We Love Weekends

4.1-Mile Tempo Run – COMPLETED

I didn’t think I was going to be able to run today because I’m leaving for a meeting that’s about half an hour away (if not more). I usually don’t go to these meetings, but the attorney needs me to come. Fortunately, she told me last minute I could run before we leave — I’m trying to cool down right now while devouring my lunch.

Tempo

Tempo

I was happy with my run today. I love seeing 8:00 min/mi and under. I often think I don’t push myself as much as I need to be pushed. I forget a lot of what I am capable of doing. Practice makes perfect.

Anyhow, the weekends really do go by fast. Unfortunately, I am either coming down with something or I’ve got allergies. Actually, ALL of us have the stuffy/tickle in the back of our throats symptoms. I have used so much tissues on the kids this weekend. Unbelievable. The “bulb” had to make its appearance on more than one occasion, but we didn’t let that stop us from having another wonderful weekend together.

After work on Thursday, we stopped by my in-laws to wish my FIL a happy birthday. We didn’t stay too long because we were all tired. Honestly, I just wanted to go home.

Happy Birthday, Abuelo.

Happy Birthday, Abuelo.

It was nice seeing them for a minute though. We wouldn’t be joining them for the April Birthday festivities, since we already had plans on Sunday. I contemplated making a stop-by, but I’ll get to that later on.

Friday, we woke up and I made Lili breakfast. Then we headed over to Mother Goose. Ms. Debbie wasn’t there, but Nina was just as good. We did the usual songs, two books and ended with the Hokey Pokey. Then we headed over to the youth center so Lili could color and play a game on the computer.

After half an hour, we called it quits and headed over to Trader Joes for light shopping. We were home by 1pm and ate lunch then the kids took a nap.

Backwards Slide Time

My niece and BIL stopped by right before we were about to leave, so we stayed an extra 15 minutes before calling it a day. It was also getting chilly. Lili was so well-behaved she didn’t throw a tantrum on our way home. As soon as we got home, I started dinner and we did the usual routine. Eat, bath and bed time.

Saturday morning, I had plans to run with Cici but our pipe in the basement took a turn for the worst. Water.Leaking.Everywhere. We had a bucket that I had to empty out and oh boy, was it a mess. So I cleaned it up and then waited for P to get up so he could head over to Home Depot. I knew by a certain time there was no way we’d be able to meet — so I ran 7-miles on my own and the last 4 with the kids in the jogger.

I had prepared this basket full of outdoor toys for the Spring/Summer time to keep right next to our front door. There’s bubbles, chalk, fruit snacks and goldfish, kleenex for allergies, sunblock. baby wipes, and playdoh. It was going to rain but the sun was still out, so Lili played with her bubbles and chalk.

We hung out with our tenants on the front stoop. It was pretty nice. Shortly after, we went inside and I started dinner. A great Saturday despite the pipes, and after three trips to Home Depot, Pedro finally FIXED the pipe!!! YAY. I finished up some more laundry and called it a night.

Sunday, we woke up and I wanted to run but was pressed for time. So instead, I did weights and called it a workout. We had Mila’s 1st Birthday at noon and I was already crazy running around. We missed Sunday mass, which I was not happy about, but ran late. Well, we got to the party 20-minuts late.

Lili had a great time. They had a balloon maker and face painter. It really kept her occupied.

The face painter was so impressed with her. She commented to P that she wishes she could take Lili to every party. She was the perfect example of how you should be when getting your face painted. She followed her directions and sat still the entire time. She loves getting her face painted. Then she got a teddy bear balloon.

Sebastian was good also.

Both kids napped for at least two hours after. We ended up ordering dinner, I was so tired. We ate, I played with the kids, they had their baths and then down to sleep. I’ve been trying to have Lili go down on her own and so far she’s been good. I had to fold laundry, wash dishes and straighten up the living room. I should have gone to sleep after, but nope. I stayed up till almost 12:30 and guess what? Sebastian woke up at 1. My own fault, as usual.

And that’s the weekend in a (long) nutshell. You should know by now that my Mondays are always so detailed. I digress. I know.

Anybody watching the NBA playoffs?
P was disappointed with the Nets. He almost went to that game.

Do you have to travel for work? Whether by plane or by car? If I were single, I’d love a job where I could travel.
